Topics covered in class:
What is User Experience Design? Who are we, and how did our career paths lead us to this discipline?
Going over the introductions in the class, I learned that the experiences we go through as designers will have an impact on the users. There are a number of backgrounds and disciplines taking this course: architects, graphic/web designers, fashion designers, and a therapist. We went over a number of subcategories within the field of UX design to simply try to define the term “User Experience Designer.”
• Software Design
• Interface Design
• Experience Design
• Information Design
• Service Design
• Human-Computer Interaction
• Information Architecture
• Interaction Design
• User-centered Design
• Emotional Design
• Usability Testing
• Content Strategy
The lecture continued with general conjecture about User Experience Design methodology along with presentation of examples of deliverables from the instructor’s experience.
What I learned:
Using experience from my career path will influence my approach in solving problems for the user. The class is setup in the Waterfall Method so we will follow this for creating a website/application, presented in a deck for a final grade.
Write a brief vision statement describing your concept for a new online product or service distributed on the web and/or mobile device. Research online for 3-5 competitors in the current online marketplace that have a similar product offering (value proposition).
